Introduction
Magnesium hydroxide is an important chemical product with the chemical formula Mg(OH)₂. It appears as colorless hexagonal columnar crystals or a white powder, and is almost insoluble in water. However, the small portion that does dissolve fully ionizes, resulting in an alkaline aqueous solution. It is soluble in dilute acids and ammonium salt solutions. Magnesium hydroxide is widely used as a flame-retardant filler in rubber and paint industries, as well as in various industrial sectors such as chemicals and environmental protection.
Product Applications
Used as a flame-retardant material: It can serve as an insulating, high-temperature-resistant fireproof and thermal insulation material, offering both flame-retardant properties and lightweight characteristics.
Used as an additive: Acts as an oil additive, providing anti-corrosion and desulfurization effects.
For environmental applications: As a flue gas desulfurization agent, it can replace caustic soda and lime as a neutralizing agent for acid-containing wastewater. Additionally, when used as an industrial wastewater treatment agent, magnesium hydroxide’s large specific surface area and strong adsorption capacity make it highly effective at capturing and removing environmentally harmful heavy metal ions from industrial effluents.
